Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has filed an applicationfor the confirmation of the government's compulsory acquisition of 28,000hectares of idle mining land currently held by after the companyobjected to the land's seizure, TheHerald of Zimbabwe wrote July 12.
The Civil Division of the Attorney-General's office filedthe application to the Administrative Court on behalf of the president, whoseeks to reclaim the land and reallocate it to other prospective miners as theproperty has been underutilized for years, according to the report.
Zimbabwe's government issued the notice to acquire the landin 2013 and the company later rejected the compulsory acquisition. Thecountry's mines minister has also engaged Zimplats for a meeting regarding thematter, which ended in a deadlock leading the president to start courtproceedings.
