Senvion, Alfanar sign 300-MW turbine deal for wind projects in Spain

Senvion SA on Aug. 9 said it has signed a contract with Alfanar Co. Ltd. to deliver up to 300 MW of turbines for various projects in Spain.

Under the agreement, the German wind turbine manufacturer will supply a broad range of turbines, including its new 3.XM140 and 4.2M14 projects. The contract includes a 20-year full maintenance service for all turbines. Installation and commissioning of the turbines is expected in 2019.

Saudi Arabia-based Alfanar had won 720 MW of wind projects out of a 3,000-MW wind auction held by the Spanish government in July 2017. The company is aiming to develop 9,000 MW of capacity globally by 2025.

"The auction in Spain was a gateway for Alfanar to enter into European market and we are glad that we will have global operational assets close to 1.84 GW by the end of 2019," said Jamal Wadi, CEO of Alfanar Energy.

Alfanar is an engineering, procurement and construction contractor in the energy sector in the Middle East and has permanent presence in Spain since 2015 through its affiliate ZIV.
