British Telecom unit EE will launch its 5G network in the U.K. on May 30, making it the first operator to offer 5G services in the country.

London, Cardiff, Belfast, Edinburgh, Birmingham and Manchester will be the first cities to get 5G.

More locations, including Glasgow, Newcastle, Liverpool, Leeds, Hull, Sheffield, Nottingham, Leicester, Coventry and Bristol, will follow later in the year. Preorders will begin May 22 at 10 a.m. GMT.

EE said customers can expect speeds of around 100 Mbps to 150 Mbps.

Rival Vodafone recently announced that its 5G network will arrive July 3 for the same price as 4G. EE, however, will charge customers extra for the next-generation service, with handset plans starting from £54 per month and SIM-only plans at £32 per month.

U.K. mobile operators Three and Telefónica SA's O2 are also expected to launch 5G networks, but have yet to announce launch dates.

EE will offer a range of 5G-compatible devices spanning exclusive handsets from OnePlus, LG Electronics Inc. and Oppo, and the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, alongside 5G routers from HTC Corp. and Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd.

"5G will not replace 4G, it becomes another asset in our network," EE CEO Marc Allera reportedly said.
