Solarcentury, Encavis start construction of 300-MW solar project in Spain

London-headquartered Solar Century Holdings Ltd. and German independent power producer Encavis AG kicked off construction on the €225 million, 300-MW Talayuela solar project in Extremadura, Spain.

Talayuela will be one of the largest and most powerful subsidy-free solar developments in the country, according to a Jan. 15 news release.

The project is on track to become operational in the second half of 2020, and will have the capability to power around 150,000 homes.

Its output will be purchased by an unnamed off-taker under a 10-year power purchase agreement, giving the project a stable and guaranteed income during the first decade of its operation.

The sponsors secured investment from the European Investment Bank and Deutsche Bank, and this month raised new debt facilities from NatWest and HSBC UK for its construction.

Talayuela is 80% owned by Encavis and 20% by Solarcentury.
