CenturyLink shutting down OTT TV service

CenturyLink Inc. is pulling the plug on its over-the-top TV service CenturyLink Stream, less than a year since its beta debut, Multichannel News reported, citing a notice from the CenturyLink Stream website.

All CenturyLink Stream services will be shut by March 31, the company told its subscribers this week. It did not offer any explanation behind its decision.

On the CenturyLink Stream website, the OTT TV service said it will no longer accept new subscriptions, while existing subscribers can continue to use CenturyLink Stream until their subscription expires. The service also offered free movie rentals until it is shut down.

The national multichannel video programming distributor service has been available on various connected devices, including a CenturyLink-branded Google Inc. Android TV box.

CenturyLink, during the reporting of its fourth-quarter and full-year 2017 results, said 2018 will be a year focused on integration, cost cuts and improved customer experience.
