Norwegian financial regulator warns against quarterly dividends

Banks and insurers should not be allowed to make quarterly dividend payments, Norway's financial supervisory authority said in its recommendation to the finance ministry, Reuters reported.

Finanstilsynet said Oct. 10 that banks should stick to full-year payments rather than quarterly ones as they could "see significant increases of losses during times of weak economic development."

Quarterly dividends could also affect insurers' ability to take precautionary capital measures, it said.
