Report: Disney, AT&T ink retransmission pact; Sinclair issues warning

Walt Disney Co. and AT&T Inc. struck an agreement in principle on a new retransmission consent and carriage contract to avoid a potential blackout for DIRECTV, U-verse and AT&T TV Now subscribers, Broadcasting & Cable reported Sept. 20.

The move allows DIRECTV, U-verse and AT&T TV Now to continue carrying networks, including ABC (US), ESPN (US) and the Disney Channel (US). Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Negotiations between the parties have occurred without any disruption in service for the programmer's owned TV stations and cable properties.

Separately, Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc. warned that subscribers to AT&T's pay TV services in 86 markets could lose access to 136 stations on Sept. 27 if a new carriage deal is not reached.

While the previous carriage agreement between AT&T and Sinclair was set to expire in August, Sinclair provided a five-week extension, David Gibber, Sinclair's senior vice president and general counsel, said in a statement on the KTXS website.
