Telecom Italia eyes majority stake in Metroweb JV

Telecom ItaliaSpA Chairman Giuseppe Recchi said that his company is aiming for atwo-thirds majority stake in a potential joint with fiber-optic firm MetrowebSpA, Reuters reported April 29.

Telecom Italia has been reportedly talks with state lender CassaDepositi e Prestiti to acquire Metroweb. A controlling stake in Metrowebwould reportedly help boost Telecom Italia's fiber broadband rollout acrossItaly, and help it compete with similar efforts by rival Enel SpA.

Meanwhile, Recchi said Telecom Italia may extend thedeadline and call for more bidders for a stake in its towers unitInfrastrutture Wireless Italiane SpA, or INWIT, according to the report.

MediasetSpA-backed EI Towers SpA and a consortium between 's Cellnex Telecom and infrastructure fund F2i had earlier offers for INWIT.Telecom Italia board representatives from largest shareholder reportedly EI Towers' bid.
