ACCIONA energizes 2 renewable projects in Chile

Acciona SA has energized two renewable projects in Chile: the 183-MW San Gabriel wind farm in the La Araucanía region and the 62-MWp Almeyda solar project in the Atacama region. The two projects raise the company's renewables capacity in the country to 536 MW, Acciona said Dec. 18.

Aside from the new plants, Acciona also expects to complete construction of the 84-MW Tolpán wind farm in the La Araucanía region and the 64-MWp Usya solar project in the Antofagasta region in 2020.

"In the last three years, we have undertaken an ambitious capital expenditure program of around $600 million, which will take us to an installed capacity of 684 MW in the country in 2020," José Ignacio Escobar, Acciona's director general of energy for South America, said in a news release.

The renewables projects were awarded during public energy auctions for regulated market clients in Chile.
