Senator asks FCC to probe Yahoo over cyberattack

Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., asked the SEC to investigateYahoo! Inc. over acyberattack thataffected at least 500 million user accounts.

In a letter to the agency, Warner said the investigationshould seek to determine whether Yahoo made proper disclosure to the public andits investors about the nature of the security breach in 2014 as required bythe law, according to a Sept. 26 news release.

The statement came after an investigation by the internetcompany found that a state-sponsored actor breached its network in late 2014 toaccess user data such as names, email addresses, telephone numbers, dates ofbirth, hashed passwords and, in some cases, encrypted or unencrypted securityquestions and answers.
