Solar developer sells 2 projects, totaling 240 MW, to Dominion Energy

Urban Grid Solar LLC on Aug. 14 announced the sale of its 142-MW Colonial Trail West Solar Facility and 98-MW Spring Grove 1 Solar Facility in Surry County, Va., to Dominion Energy Virginia.

Construction on Colonial Trail West is expected to begin in early 2019 with the solar plant set to begin commercial operation in December 2019, Urban Solar said. The Spring Grove 1 plant is expected to reach commercial operation in October 2020, the developer said in a news release.

Dominion Energy Virginia, known legally as Virginia Electric and Power Co., on July 24 filed a petition with the Virginia State Corporation Commission asking regulators to authorize the construction and cost recovery for the solar facilities.

The petition is part of the Dominion Energy Inc. subsidiary's commitment to add more than 3,000 MW of new solar and wind under development or in operation by 2022. The effort is part of the utility's first set of plans to comply with Virginia's Grid Transformation and Security Act.

Dominion Energy Virginia also has filed for regulatory approval of its proposed 12-MW Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project, which will be located several miles off the coast of Virginia Beach.
