Sears Holdings Corp. will close its store in the Dover Mall in Delaware in early August, a company spokesperson told S&P Global Market Intelligence in an email May 22.
The move is in line with the company's previously announced policy to close unprofitable stores, the spokesperson said. A liquidation sale began May 18.
Sears has realized that some of its stores are too big for its needs, and having the right format will help the company to meet challenges of the changing retail world, the spokesperson added.
Employees affected by the closure could receive severance, if eligible, according to the spokesperson, and can apply for openings at other Sears or Kmart stores.
Sears Auto Center in the Dover Mall will remain open, the spokesperson said.
