Vestas to supply 406 MW of wind projects in US and Mexico

Vestas Wind Systems A/S said June 1 it has received orders to deliver wind turbines for projects in the U.S. and Mexico totaling 406 MW.

In the U.S., the Danish wind power developer will deliver 100 MW of its V136 turbines, each with a capacity of 3.45-MW, to Southern Power Co. for its recently acquired Wildhorse Mountain facility in Oklahoma. The project was developed by Roaring Fork Wind, a joint venture between RES Group's Renewable Energy Systems Americas Inc. and Vestas' North American development arm, Steelhead Americas.

Under the joint venture, RES Americas Developments will provide the balance of plant construction and Steelhead Americas will provide long-term maintenance of the turbines through a 20-year service agreement.

Turbine delivery will begin in the second quarter of 2019 and the project is expected to enter commercial operations in the fourth quarter of 2019.

Vestas will also deliver 85 wind turbines as part of a 306-MW order for the Mesa la Paz wind park in Tamaulipas, Mexico, for Ener AB, a joint venture between AES Corp. and Grupo BAL.

"We recently won a 25-year [power purchase agreement] for the 306 MW Mesa La Paz wind facility," EnerAB CEO Juan Ignacio Rubiolo said in a separate June 1 news release. "It's the first renewable [power purchase agreement] above 300 MW in Mexico financed entirely through a US-held private company."

Vestas has a 15-year services agreement in place for the operation and maintenance of the facility as part of the order.
