IMF to reopen Argentine office

The International Monetary Fund is set to reopen its Argentine office and has appointed Jamaican economist Trevor Alleyne as its representative in the Latin American country, La Nación reported.

Alleyne has 25 years of experience with the Fund and reportedly has worked with several Latin American and African countries and will start his Argentine mission at the end of November. He will represent the IMF in the $57.1 billion standby arrangement with Argentina.

The IMF closed its doors in Buenos Aires in 2012 amid a difficult relationship with the government of former President Nestor Kirchner.
