Enel breaks ground on 140-MW wind project in South Africa

Enel SpA, through its subsidiary Enel Green Power Rsa (Pty) Ltd., broke ground on the 140-MW onshore wind farm in South Africa's Kouga local municipality.

The Oyster Bay project represents an investment of €180 million and will be the Italian company's fourth project in the country, according to a May 27 news release. Upon commissioning in the second quarter of 2021, the 41-turbine wind farm is expected to generate approximately 568 GWh of electricity annually.

Oyster Bay has a 20-year power supply agreement with the South African energy utility Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd. as part of the South African government's renewable energy independent power producer procurement program tender.

Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd.Enel won five wind projects for 700 MW in the fourth round of the tender in April 2015.
