Birimian reduces C1 costs for Goulamina lithium project by further 5%

Birimian Ltd. said May 28 that it reduced C1 costs for the Goulamina lithium project in southern Mali by around 5% to between US$280 per tonne and US$285 per tonne.

Initially, the miner projected C1 costs at US$379 per tonne in its October 2017 pre-feasibility study, which was subsequently revised to US$300 per tonne in March.

The reduced costs were the result of further optimization work done for a revised pre-feasibility study for Goulamina, which will now be announced together with a maiden ore reserve by the end of June, instead of this month as originally scheduled.

In addition to previously announced cost reductions in product transportation and logistics, power and fuel costs, further savings are now anticipated in process labor and maintenance costs.

In April, the company's resource estimate for the Goulamina project increased to 65 million tonnes containing 931,000 tonnes of lithium oxide, or Li2O, grading 1.43% Li2O.
