France's trade deficit widens in May

France's foreign trade deficit widened to €6.01 billion in May from a revised €5.21 billion in April as both imports and exports fell, government data showed.

Exports fell 2% to €40.51 billion in May from €41.34 billion in the previous month, while imports edged lower to €46.52 billion from €46.55 billion.

The country's current account deficit also widened to €2.9 billion in May from €1.3 billion April on a seasonally and working-day adjusted basis, according to separate data from the Banque de France.

The services surplus declined to €1.0 billion in May from €1.7 billion in the prior month, while the deficit in goods widened to €4.9 billion from €3.9 billion.
