Singapore, Thailand eye digital payment tie-up

Singapore and Thailand are in talks to connect their national e-payment systems, Bloomberg News reported Oct. 5.

The two countries' central banks are discussing plans to connect their digital payment platforms, Singapore's PayNow and Thailand's PromptPay, said Naphongthawat Phothikit, director of payment systems policy at the Bank of Thailand.

The Bank of Thailand and the Monetary Authority of Singapore "are exploring the possibility" of a link between the two platforms, Naphongthawat said. Discussions are still at a preliminary stage.
