US regulators consider revising leveraged-lending guidelines

U.S. banking regulators informed Congress that they may revise and reissue for public comment a 2013 leveraged-lending policy document, The Wall Street Journal reported Dec. 8.

The Federal Reserve, Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. are reviewing the policy to improve the guidance's clarity, reduce unnecessary burden, reduce ambiguity and increase transparency, according to letters submitted to Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer, R-Mo., a member of the House Financial Services Committee.

Luetkemeyer had sent a letter to banking regulators seeking to curb the enforcement of leveraged-lending restrictions and to review other policies, Reuters reported Nov. 3.
