Reports: Deutsche Telekom weighing Romanian unit sale

Deutsche Telekom AG is weighing a sale of its Romanian unit Telekom Romania Communications SA, though the details of the potential deal or deals that could result remain unclear, according to Telecompaper and other English-language outlets that cited Romanian news sources.

Romania Cable Systems & Romania Data Systems is eyeing Telekom Romania's sports TV channel, while Orange SA is interested in the mobile business, Telecompaper reported, citing Gazeta Sporturilor.

A new government ordinance in Romania increased the regulatory fees paid by telcos to 3% of their turnover, leading to price hikes that have negatively impacted Telekom Romania's performance, the reports said.

Bulgarian businessman Spas Rusev earlier said he is in talks to acquire Telekom Romania. Rusev, through business entity Albania Telecom Invest AD, recently completed the purchase of a stake in Telekom Albania sh.a. for €50 million.
