Japan current account surplus rises in August

Japan's current account surplus widened 20.8% year over year to ¥2.380 trillion in August, following a 19.6% annual rise to ¥2.320 trillion in July, preliminary data from the Ministry of Finance showed.

Exports were up 16.3% in August after a 15.2% increase in the prior month, while growth in imports slowed to 15.1% from July's 17.7%.

As of Oct. 9, US$1 was equivalent to ¥112.68.
