AetnaInc. will offer discounts on Apple Inc.'s Apple Watch to selected individual and employercustomers beginning in the autumn.
The healthcare insurance firm said Sept. 27 that it willcover a significant portion of the device's cost, while offering monthlypayroll deductions to pay off the remaining amount.
Aetna will also give away the smartwatch free of charge to itsemployees who will sign up for the company's wellness reimbursement program.
The offers are part of a partnership that also involvesdeveloping Aetna's health apps for iOS-powered devices such as the iPhone, iPadand Apple Watch. Such apps will provide health information, medicationreminders and personalized health planning, and will be integrated with theApple Wallet service to facilitate customers' payment of Aetna bills.
The health apps are expected to debut in the early part of2017.
