Union Gas starts up replaced pipe portion of Ontario gas system

Canadian gas utility Union Gas Ltd. placed in service the replacement for a portion of its Greater Sudbury natural gas pipeline system in Ontario, according to a Nov. 13 news release.

Union Gas replaced about 19.6-kilometers of 10-inch pipe with new 12-inch pipeline in different sections of the company's Greater Sudbury system, mainly in New Sudbury and Copper Cliff in Ontario, as part of a 2018 replacement project. The company also said clean-up work will continue through 2019.

The Greater Sudbury system spans about 110 kilometers from Greater Sudbury to Espanola to deliver gas to roughly 52,100 customers. The Enbridge Inc. utility provides gas service to about 1.5 million customers in Ontario.
