Botswana Diamonds: Drilling to kick off at Maibwe block in Botswana

Botswana DiamondsPlc said May 9 that large-diameter drilling is to commence shortly atPL 186, a component of the Maibwe block of licenses in Botswana's Gope region, wheremanagement is hoping to confirm the results of the 2015 drill season and furtherdefine a number of diamondiferous kimberlites.

Botswana Diamonds has an interest in the deposit via its 15%stake in Maibwe Diamonds, a privately held company that is 51% owned by , Botswana'sstate-owned copper and nickel producer.

"We now know there are diamonds on PL 186. The upcomingdrilling is to establish the grade and quality," said John Teeling, chairmanof Botswana Diamonds.

Botswana Diamonds in 2013 signed an exploration joint venturewith Brightstone Mining on PL 186. After BCL took over the deposit in 2015, it createdMaibwe Diamonds, and Botswana Diamonds retained a 15% interest in the new company.

London-listed Botswana Diamonds is also engaged in an explorationjoint venture with Russianstate-controlled producer PJSC ALROSA.The joint venture company received exploration licenses and commenced drilling in the Orapa region of the country earlierthis year.
