Walmart Inc. has teamed up with Virginia-based Advance Auto Parts Inc., to set up an automotive specialty store on Walmart.com.
The partnership will give consumers access to Advance's automotive replacement parts, accessories and maintenance items on the retail giant's e-commerce platform.
The specialty store is expected to be launched in the first half of 2019.
Moody's retail analyst Charlie O'Shea views the partnership as positive for both Walmart and Advance Auto. "This alliance will provide Advance with a broader base for its products, with a partner in Walmart that is rapidly accelerating its online presence, and provides Walmart and its customers with a deeper assortment of auto parts," O'Shea said in a note.
Walmart already offers automotive parts and accessories such as tires, lube and battery services in more than 2,500 Walmart Auto Care Centers and on its online marketplace.
Both the companies will also explore new fulfillment options for home delivery, same-day pickup in stores and installation of parts.
