Top 10 VOD titles: 'Kingsman' sequel takes top honors

20th Century Fox's "Kingsman: The Golden Circle" claimed the top spot on comScore Inc.'s rankings of top 10 video-on-demand titles for the week ended Dec. 17.

The sequel to the 2015 action-comedy sees Taron Egerton and Colin Firth reprise their roles as secret Kingsman agents, who this time around have to team up with an allied spy organization in the U.S. called Statesman to take on a ruthless enemy, played by Julianne Moore.

"The Golden Circle" pulled in about $100.1 million at the domestic box office. The film made about $295.3 million overseas for a total worldwide take of $395.5 million, compared to a production budget of $104 million, according to Box Office Mojo.

The movie met a more favorable reception from regular audiences than critics. According to's critic consensus, "Kingsman: The Golden Circle offers more of everything that made its predecessor so much fun, but lacks the original's wild creative spark." As of Dec. 27, the movie's rating stood at 51%, while the audience score was at 67%. On Metacritic, the metascore was a 44 out of 100 and the user score was a 6.5. IMDb's rating stood at a 7.0.

Taking the No. 2 spot for the measured period was NBCUniversal Media LLC's "Despicable Me 3. "The animated sequel sees Gru, once again voiced by Steve Carell, meet his long-lost and more successful twin brother Dru who wants to team up with him for one last criminal heist.

The movie made about $264.6 million at the domestic box office and an additional $768.9 million overseas for a worldwide total of about $1.03 billion, compared to a production budget of $80 million, according to Box Office Mojo.

"Despicable Me 3" scored a tomatometer rating of 60% and an audience score of 55% on, with a critics consensus that "Despicable Me 3 should keep fans of the franchise consistently entertained with another round of colorful animation and zany — albeit somewhat scattershot — humor." Metacritic's score was a 49 out of 100 and the user score on the website was a 5.7, while IMDb's rating stood at a 6.3.

Universal also landed the No. 3 spot with "Home Again." The romantic comedy stars Reese Witherspoon as a single mom whose life takes an unexpected turn when she allows three young men to move in with her.

The movie, which pulled in $27 million at the domestic box office, received middling reviews from both critics and regular audiences. "Home Again gathers a talented crowd of rom-com veterans on both sides of the camera — all of whom have unfortunately done far better work," read's critics consensus. The movie's tomatometer rating on the website was at 32% and the audience score was at 49%. Metacritic's score was a 41 out of 100 and the website's user score was a 5.7. IMDb's score stood at a 5.7.
