J D Wetherspoon profit misses consensus by 15.7% in fiscal H1

J D Wetherspoon plc said its normalized net income for the fiscal first half ended Jan. 24 amounted to 17 Great British pence per share, compared with the S&P Capital IQ consensus estimate of 20 pence per share.

EPS declined 12.1% year over year from 19 pence.

Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was £20.1 million, a decline of 14.8% from £23.6 million in the year-earlier period.

Total revenue grew 6.2% on an annual basis to £790.3 million from £744.4 million, and total operating expenses increased 7.5% year over year to £740.8 million from £689.0 million.

Reported net income grew 11.0% on an annual basis to £30.8 million, or 26 pence per share, from £27.8 million, or 23 pence per share.
