Boeing Co. scored a sales win against European rival Airbus, announcing March 6 that Hawaiian Airlines Inc. plans to buy 10 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft valued at $2.82 billion at list prices.
Hawaiian Airlines said it signed a non-binding letter of intent to purchase the Dreamliners, opting against Airbus' A330-900 bid.
A 787-9 jet is valued at $281.6 million, according to Boeing's price list.
Boeing said Hawaiian Airlines also has purchase rights for 10 additional 787s.
Hawaiian Airlines said it expects to finalize a binding purchase agreement with Boeing in the second quarter.
The first of the 10 Dreamliner jets that Hawaiian Airlines intends to order is scheduled to arrive in the first quarter of 2021, the airline said.
