Becton Dickinson CEO to retire; COO to take over

Becton Dickinson and Co. said Vincent Forlenza will retire as CEO, effective Jan. 28, 2020.

Forlenza will continue as the company's executive chairman. He took the helm of the company in October 2011 and was appointed chairman in July 2012.

Thomas Polen, the company's president and COO, will take over as CEO and retain his role as president, with effect Jan. 28, 2020.

As president and COO, Polen oversees Becton Dickinson's three business segments and is responsible for global research and development, innovation, operations and the commercial organization of the medical technology company's Americas region.

Polen has been with Becton Dickinson for 18 years, having joined the company in 1999. Before becoming group president, he was president of the company's medical segment.
