It is official:Roger Ailes resigned as chairman and CEO of FOX News Channel (US) and FOX Business Network (US), and Chairman of Fox TelevisionStations.

Rupert Murdoch will serve as chairman and acting CEO of Fox NewsChannel and Fox Business Network, 21stCentury Fox Inc. said July 21.

Ailes was recently accusedof sexual harassment by former anchor Gretchen Carlson, and reports indicated that Rupert Murdoch and sons Lachlan andJames, co-chairmen and CEO, respectively, of FOX News parent 21st Century Fox agreedto remove Ailes. Another FOX News anchorwoman, Megyn Kelly,reportedly also told investigators that Ailes had sexually harassed her years ago.

Ailes claimed Carlson's sexual harassment against him were false, labelingthe legal action a retaliatory suit for the network's decision not to renew hercontract.

Ailes' resignation is effective immediately.
