'Scandal'-creator Shonda Rhimes joins Netflix

Shonda Rhimes is moving to Netflix Inc. from ABC (US) following a multiyear deal to produce new series and other projects, Netflix said Aug. 13.

The producer behind shows such as "Grey's Anatomy," "Scandal" and "How to get Away with Murder" will also bring her Shondaland production outfit to Netflix, along with longtime producing partner Betsy Beers.

"Shondaland's move to Netflix is the result of a shared plan Ted Sarandos and I built based on my vision for myself as a storyteller and for the evolution of my company," Rhimes said.

Current Shondaland shows will remain with ABC following the announcement. "How to Get Away with Murder" streams on Netflix outside the U.S.
