UnitedHealth Group to exit Georgia health exchange in 2017

UnitedHealthGroup Inc. will stop offering plans on the Georgia health insuranceexchange for 2017, Bloomberg News reported April 8.

With the insurer's exit, people insured under its plans willhave to select a new provider in 2017, the news outlet said. The change doesnot affect their coverage, according to the report.

UnitedHealth spokesman Tyler Mason confirmed the company'sdecision, according to the report.

Currently, nine insurance companies sell ACA plans inGeorgia. Glenn Allen, a representative for Georgia's insurance commissioner,said no other insurer has given notice of an exit, adding that they have untilMay 11 to decide, the news outlet said.

UnitedHealth is also withdrawing from Arkansas' health insurance exchange in2017. Mason declined to say if UnitedHealth will withdraw from other states,Bloomberg reported.
