NBCU's Fandango to acquire MovieTickets.com

NBCUniversal Media LLC's Fandango struck a deal to acquire online movie ticketing service MovieTickets.com, which serves clients in the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and Latin America.

MovieTickets.com will join NBCU's Fandango, Flixster, Ingresso and Fandango Latin America suite of movie ticketing brands. MovieTickets.com will continue to operate from its Boca Raton, Fla., headquarters, following the deal closing, the companies said in an Oct. 13 press release. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The acquisition will help Fandango expand its footprint in Latin America and establish a presence in Canada and the U.K. for the first time, the company said. It also will bring new exhibitors to Fandango's ticketing network, including National Amusements, Cineplex, Landmark Theatres and Marquee Cinemas, along with other independent theater chains.

The acquisition is expected to close in the fourth quarter, subject to customary closing conditions.

NBCU is a unit of Comcast Corp.
