FERC clears Prairie Wind transmission line ownership restructuring

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on Dec. 13 approved the transfer of a stake in the 108-mile, 345-kV Prairie Wind transmission line to upstream owners.

Under the transaction, Electric Transmission America LLC, which owns 50% of Prairie Wind Transmission LLC, will be dissolved.

Electric Transmission's upstream owners, AEP Transmission Co. LLC and BHE America Transco LLC, will each receive a 25% stake in Prairie Wind. The other 50% stake will continue to be owned by Evergy Kansas Central Inc., formerly known as Westar Energy Inc.

BHE America is owned by BHE U.S. Transmission LLC. AEP Transmission is a subsidiary of American Electric Power Co. Inc. Evergy Kansas Central's parent company is Evergy Inc.
