Vedanta's Gamsberg zinc project to receive $1B investment by 2019

Vedanta ResourcesPlc plans to invest $1 billion in its zinc project in SouthAfrica over the next three years, the Press Trust of India reported July 8, citingChairman Anil Agarwal.

Around $150 million has already been invested in Gamsberg,with a further $200 million each to be invested this year and in 2017.

Once the mines start production, Vedanta will spend some $450million on ramp-ups during 2018 and 2019.

Agarwal added that the company will sign two memorandums ofunderstanding with South African companies to improve safety and productivityat the mechanized underground mines of Vedanta's subsidiary,
