De Beers' 2nd rough diamond sales cycle slips to US$555M

Anglo American Plc's rough diamond sales in the second cycle of this year for its De Beers SA unit slipped to a provisional US$555 million, from US$672 million in the first sales cycle.

Sales in the second sales cycle of 2017 totaled US$553 million.

"The second sales cycle of the year saw the continuation of good rough diamond demand. This was in line with expectations, following strong retail sales of diamond jewellery during the U.S. holiday season and positive early signs for consumer demand over Chinese New Year," De Beers CEO Bruce Cleaver said in a March 6 statement.
