Report: Lawmakers seek information from Spotify about Apple complaint

The U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Committee asked Spotify Technology SA to provide information regarding its anti-competitive claims against Apple Inc., Reuters reported Oct. 4.

The lawmakers approached Spotify as part of an investigation into claims that the iPhone-maker engaged in anti-competitive behavior to support its own apps, a source with knowledge of the matter said.

Earlier this year, Spotify filed an anti-competition complaint against Apple with the European Commission, alleging that Apple introduced "unfair" rules to the App Store that limit choice and stifle innovation at the expense of user experience. Apple dismissed the allegations and accused Spotify of wrapping its "financial motivations in misleading rhetoric" about Apple.

Spotify representatives have held meetings with officials at the U.S. Department of Justice and members of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission's Technology Task Force, according to one source.

As part of the broader tech probe, the DOJ is investigating Alphabet Inc.'s Google LLC, Facebook Inc. and Apple, while the FTC is investigating Facebook and Amazon.com Inc.
