Toyota recalls 696,000 vehicles in US over faulty fuel pump

Toyota Motor Corp. is recalling approximately 696,000 vehicles in the U.S. over a potentially faulty fuel pump, the automaker said Jan. 13.

The recall covers certain Toyota and Lexus brand vehicles equipped with a fuel pump that could stop operating, Toyota said in a news release.

If the fuel pump stops working, warning lights and messages might be displayed and the engine could run rough, resulting in a stalled vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash, the automaker said.

The recalled vehicles include certain model year 2018-2019 Lexus LS 500, LC 500, RC 350, RC 300, GS 350, IS 300, ES 350, LX 570, GX 460 and RX 350 vehicles; certain model year 2019 Lexus NX 300, RX 350L and GS 300 units; certain model year 2018-2019 Toyota 4Runner, Camry, Highlander, Land Cruiser, Sequoia, Sienna, Tacoma and Tundra vehicles; and certain 2019 model year Toyota Avalon and Corolla units.

Toyota said it is investigating the issue and working on a solution that will be free to owners.
