NextEra Energy commissions 2 wind farms in Kansas

NextEra Energy Resources LLC started operations at its Kingman and Ninnescah wind farms in Kansas.

SNL Energy estimated project costs of $390 million for the 200-MW Kingman facility in Kingman County and $388 million for the 208.3-MW Ninnescah facility in Pratt County.

Westar Energy Inc. will purchase the output from both facilities to bolster its wind generation to more than 1,700 MW. While the utility plans to use all of the energy produced from Ninnescah to serve its retail customers, Westar will provide half of the energy produced at Kingman to its wholesale partners Midwest Energy Inc. and the Kansas cities of McPherson, Chanute, Iola, Fredonia and Sabetha.

NextEra Energy Resources is a unit of NextEra Energy Inc.

SNL Energy is an offering of S&P Global Market Intelligence.
