FPL selects locations for next slate of 4 solar projects

Florida Power & Light Co. on March 2 announced names and locations of four new solar projects, with a combined capacity of about 300 MW, one day after completing installation of 300 MW of solar projects across various locations in Florida.

The projects are as part of the the NextEra Energy Inc. subsidiary's target of increasing its solar capacity to 2,362 MW by 2023.

The proposed projects are the FPL Interstate Solar Energy Center in St. Lucie County, FPL Miami-Dade Solar Energy Center in Miami-Dade County, FPL Pioneer Trail Solar Energy Center in Volusia County and FPL Sunshine Gateway Solar Energy Center in Columbia County. Each project has a capacity of 74.5 MW and will boost FPL's fleet of 14 solar plants currently in operation.

Construction is expected to begin late 2018. The projects are expected go online by mid-2019, generating enough power to serve about 60,000 homes.

FPL expects to install a total of more than 10 million solar panels from 2016 to 2023.
