Boeing Co. is separating the roles of chairman and CEO.
The Chicago-based aviation company is appointing independent lead director David Calhoun as nonexecutive chairman, replacing Dennis Muilenburg, who will continue as president, CEO and a member of Boeing's board.
The decision is meant to allow Muilenburg to focus on returning the 737 MAX aircraft back to service, Boeing said. Boeing's 737 MAX jets have been under scrutiny following fatal crashes in March 2019 and October 2018.
The Boeing board also plans to name a new director in the near future to serve on its newly established aerospace safety committee.
