Birchbox, Inc., a beauty subscription service, is reportedly in discussions with several potential buyers, including Wal-Mart Stores Inc., according to an Aug. 9 report by Recode.
Birchbox declined to comment on the possibility of an acquisition, and Wal-Mart did not immediately return a request for comment. It is unclear what stage the companies are at in the talks or if they will result in an agreement, according to the Recode report.
If a deal does come to fruition, it would be Wal-Mart's fifth announcement of an e-commerce acquisition since August 2016, including men's apparel retailer Bonobos, Inc. and general online retailer Jet.com Inc. The retail giant's e-commerce acquisition strategy has picked up since Marc Lore, president and CEO of Wal-Mart's e-commerce division, came to the company as part of the Jet.com purchase.
