Unilever to acquire personal products company Schmidt's Naturals

Anglo-Dutch consumer products company Unilever Plc said Dec. 14 that it will acquire Oregon-based natural personal products company Schmidt's Naturals for an undisclosed price.

Founded in 2010 as a deodorant brand, Schmidt's Naturals sells a range of deodorants, bar soaps and toothpastes derived from plants and minerals. Unilever said the acquisition complements its existing portfolio of deodorants, which includes Degree, Axe and Dove. It also allows the company to reach new customers who prefer natural options, Unilever said.

Subject to government authorizations, the transaction is expected to close no later than the first quarter of 2018, Unilever said.

Unilever said Schmidt's Naturals co-founders Jaime Schmidt and Michael Cammarata will continue to be involved with the brand. Cammarata is the brand's CEO.
