Glencore Plcwill shut down the NewlandsNorthern underground coal mine in June, Australian Mining reported April12.
The company first anticipated the closure of the Queensland mineto occur in December 2015.
The delay was due to a longer than anticipated extraction timefor the final longwall panel.
"The mine has reached the end of its economic mine lifeand will close upon completion of the final longwall panel," a Glencore spokespersontold the news outlet.
"We try to give a timeline for potential closure of themine to give workers as much time as possible to be prepared for this eventuality."
Approximately 100 people are employed at the mine site. Glencoremay redeploy some workers at other sites, according to the report.
