Abeona Therapeutics Inc. said Juan Ruiz will step down as chief medical officer and assume the role of head of European medical affairs.

The Dallas-based biopharmaceutical company appointed João Siffert as its head of research and development and chief medical officer.

Previously, Siffert served on the board of directors of gene therapy developer AveXis Inc., which was acquired by Swiss drugmaker Novartis AG.
