J.P. Morgan upgrades AssetMark on 'attractive' upside in 2020

J.P. Morgan analyst Kenneth Worthington upgraded AssetMark Financial Holdings Inc. over "attractive" upside in 2020 based on the "consistent and repeatable" strong organic growth the company has shown.

At 13%, organic asset growth is well above peers, and the company's expansion of its distribution efforts among registered investment advisers, or RIAs, and the bank trust channel creates growth opportunities, the analyst said.

For RIAs, AssetMark is looking to launch a brokerage solution to appeal to RIAs that manage their client investment directly. The company recently agreed to acquire OBS Financial Services Inc., and Worthington believes AssetMark will use OBS as a platform to grow the bank trust adviser channel.

Worthington upgraded AssetMark to "overweight" from "neutral" with a price target of $31. His adjusted EPS estimates are 94 cents for 2019 and $1.09 for 2020.
