Total U.S. nuclear plant availability ticked higher early Aug. 9 to 96.45%, up from 96.07% on Aug. 8 but still lower than the 97.61% reported on the same day last year.
Working to increase total output was higher production at two reactors. The recently restarted Nine Mile Point 2 plant in New York, which is owned by Exelon Corp., EDF Group and Long Island Power Authority, was pegged at 65% early Aug. 9, up from 5% the day prior. Tennessee Valley Authority's Watts Bar 2 in Tennessee was operating at 69% early Aug. 9, rising from 52% on Aug. 8.
Offsetting the two increases was a large curtailment for undisclosed reasons at Dominion Energy Inc.'s Surry 1 reactor in Virginia. The unit saw output cut from 100% on Aug. 8 to 70% early Aug. 9.
