Carrefour buys online fresh produce distributor Potager City

French supermarket retailer Carrefour SA acquired Lyon-based Potager City, a start-up involved in the subscription-based distribution of fresh and seasonal fruits and vegetables.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

"Customers will be able to subscribe to a practical, commitment-free box delivery service, providing them with extra-fresh, seasonal and local products that are both tasty and responsible, fully in line with our company purpose," said Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, Carrefour's executive director of e-commerce, data and digital transformation.

Carrefour acquired lunch delivery startup Dejbox earlier in January.
