Insurer Catalana Occidente says to protect interests amid Catalan crisis

Insurance company Grupo Catalana Occidente SA has written to staff telling them that it will do what it is necessary to protect its business from political and social strife, Spanish media reported, on a day that separate reports indicated that major banks were preparing to leave the region of Catalonia before it secedes from Spain.

"As it has done throughout its history, the company will always ensure that its products and services are not in any way affected by the political and social situation," the company said in a note to staff, according to Expansión.

The note come as Banco de Sabadell SA and CaixaBank SA were both reportedly readying decisions on moving away from Catalonia, to avoid any possibility of losing access to European Central Bank liquidity in the event of independence from Spain.
