The U.S. Department of Energy launched initiatives May 24 to highlight carbon capture and nuclear power during a clean energy forum in Denmark.
Energy Secretary Rick Perry proposed the Nuclear Innovation: Clean Energy Future and Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage initiatives at 2017's Clean Energy Ministerial meeting in Beijing.
"The vital importance of both of these energy technologies are often under-recognized in their contributions to clean air," Perry said in a news release.
The carbon capture initiative is aimed at strengthening the framework for building collaborative partnerships between the public and private sectors. It is led by the U.S., Norway and Saudi Arabia and joined by Canada, China, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates and the U.K. as well as the European Commission.
The nuclear initiative intends to address improved power system integration through advanced energy systems and applications such as nuclear-renewable systems.
